Nikolaos Malamos is Associate Professor of Irrigation and Drainage, Modelling of Soil-Plant-Atmosphere interactions<\/i>, at the\u00a0Department of Agriculture<\/a>, of the\u00a0University of Patras<\/a><\/p>\n

He graduated from the<\/span>\u00a0Agricultural University of Athens, he received his M.Sc.\u00a0<\/span>from\u00a0<\/span>the School of<\/span>\u00a0Civil Engineering at the National<\/span>\u00a0Technical University of Athens<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0his\u00a0Doctorate<\/span>\u00a0in Agricultural Sciences<\/span>\u00a0from the\u00a0Department<\/span>\u00a0of Natural Resources and<\/span>\u00a0Agricultural Engineering<\/span>.\u00a0He received a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation, for the attainment of his doctoral thesis in the field of\u00a0Agricultural Hydraulics \u2013 Irrigation.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He worked in the private and public sector as an irrigation expert. He participated in several research projects on the field of irrigation, hydroinformatics and geographic information systems.<\/p>\n

His activity<\/span>\u00a0focuses in<\/span>\u00a0Soil Hydrology<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0Spatial Analysis<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0Hydroinformatics<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was a member of the Editorial Board (Associate Editor) of the Hydrological Sciences Journal<\/a>, which is the official Journal of the\u00a0International Association of Hydrological Sciences \u2013 IAHS<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Agricultural Hydraulics Laboratory<\/h1>\n

The Agricultural Hydraulics Laboratory<\/strong> is located at the ground floor of the Department of Agriculture<\/a> building K24 (Room I24).
\nIts mission is to develop irrigation and drainage water management practices and methods that use water efficiently, improve agricultural productivity and sustainability, and reduce negative environmental impacts of irrigated agriculture.<\/p>\n

It is active in three domains: research, teaching and services:<\/p>\n

Research<\/h2>\n

  • Analysis and modelling of interactions between plants, soil and atmosphere<\/li>\n
  • Irrigation scheduling and forecasting<\/li>\n
  • Spatial interpolation methods<\/li>\n
  • Data assimilation and parameter estimation<\/li>\n
  • Application of advanced mathematical techniques in agricultural water management – Hydroinformatics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Teaching<\/h2>\n

    The Laboratory is responsible for courses in Irrigation and Drainage, Agricultural Hydraulics, Soil Physics and Geographic Information Systems. Also on the premises of the laboratory take place placement of students through participation in research.<\/p>\n

    Services<\/h2>\n

    The Laboratory provides advice and services to government authorities and organisations and also participates in national and international projects.<\/p>\n

    • Bulk density and soil moisture of soil samples<\/li>\n
    • Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity through constant head , falling head and Guelph permeameter methods<\/li>\n

    • Soil moisture measurements and monitoring through time domain reflectometry (TDR) and dielectric-capacitance probes<\/li>\n
    • Irrigation systems design using software<\/li>\n
